Staff and students across the school welcomed parent/carers into their classrooms to engage in communication activities with an international twist. We had paella and a beach party in the lower school, including a limbo competition. How low can you go? Some classes coloured in flags from around the world amongst a myriad of other activities.

This half-term we have been hard at work completing a project with the Norris Museum. This joint project is promoting the importance of pollination through friendship and team work in the community.

Travelling to Belgium

Our students arrived bright and early to set off on a unique week away visiting the amazing Saint Josef Kleminaire School, who we have had the pleasure of hosting  at Spring Common Academy in March this year. This annual experience is a highlight in the Spring Common Academy calendar. 

Our pupils travelled to Brussels Central with the added excitement of experiencing the Eurostar journey. On arrival, they were met by familiar Belgian students and staff, who made sure the group were supported safely to their next destination and home for the week, St Niklaas. 

Ahead of our arrival, the Belgian students prepared a lovely dinner and welcome activity to allow our tired and anxious students to immediately feel at ease.

The STEMPoint team comprised of Alvina, Rebecca and Jo, ran a workshop for the day called "seed to plant". The workshop focused on what STEM means (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths), and how it is threaded into our everyday lives in the things that we do. The pupils thought about jobs and careers aligned with these areas, and the types of work-related skills that they would use, especially working as a part of a team.

Industry day is comprised of creative workshops that granted us the opportunity to delve into the fascinating world behind the scenes of the upcoming pantomime, Hansel and Gretel.

The day unfolded with two captivating workshops, one centred around the musical aspects of the production and the other exploring the intricate world of set design. Led by seasoned professionals, these workshops provided an immersive and enjoyable experience that left us with a deeper appreciation for the creative process.

Hamerton Zoological Park has been playing a vital role in animal conservation since 1990 and still continue to do so to this day. This trip provided an opportunity for our pupils to see and learn about Hamerton’s extensive exhibits, reflecting on their topic story for the summer term ‘The Smartest Giant in Town’. Pupils have had a great opportunity to see the animals from the story as well as experiencing a new environment outside of school.

Monday 24th April, 2023 saw a cohort of Post-16 Students accompanied by our team set off on an adventure to Belgium to visit our friends at Sint-Jozef-Klein-Seminarie, and lodging at St Niklaas School.  In only a few short days we managed to visit "The Grand Palace", "Les Galeries Royales Saint Hubert" and of course, "Mannekin Pis" and "Jeaneke Pis" for a colourful splash of continental Culture, in addition to all the other formative experiences that our Students have found so valuable.
